Hugh Johnson’s Pocket Wine Book 2006 has been published and for the first time 18 Israeli wineries are listed. The wineries are ranked in four categories:
- Three Stars ***: Castel (Domaine du Castel); Yarden (Golan Heights )
- Two Stars **: Flam ; Margalit ; Yatir
- One Star *: Amphorae ; Carmel ; Galil Mountain; Saslove
- Others: Barkan ; Chateau Golan; Dalton ; Ella Valley ; Harel (Clos de Gat); Recanati; Tabor; Tishbi; Tzora
Carmel, Galil Mountain & Saslove have received a star for the first time. Ella Valley is the newest addition to the list.
Hugh Johnson also makes his own selection of wines for 2006. There is one wine from Israel amongst those chosen:
Yarden El Rom Cabernet Sauvignon, Golan Heights Winery, Israel.
