The Carmel Trophy for Best Producer in the Eastern Mediterranean was this year awarded to Gerovassiliou Winery, one of Greece’s finest small wineries. The award was presented at the annual awards banquet held at the Guildhall in London, at the beginning of November 2005.

Carmel Winery sponsored the trophy at the International Wines & Spirits Competition in London for the second consecutive year.  Many of the world’s leading drinks companies were among the sponsors, including Gallo & Diageo, respectively the world’s largest winery & drinks company.

The International Wines & Spirits Competition is one of the world’s most prestigious & professional  wine & spirit tasting competitions. It is also very well established having been run for over 25 years.

Carmel has known success of its own at the IWSC winning the Trophy ‘For Best Brandy Worldwide’ for its Brandy 100, 9 year old, recent Gold Medals for its Sabra Liqueurs and silver medals for its wines.

Carmel decided to sponsor this competition to give focus to the Eastern Mediterranean as a quality wine growing area. This is after all, the wine region that Israel is part of. Over 50 wineries from Cyprus, Greece, Israel, Lebanon, Turkey, took part in the competition. Carmel Winery was pleased the Trophy was won by one of the finest Eastern Mediterranean wineries, to support the argument that the region, which gave wine culture to the world, is once again making world class wines.
