Carmel Winery has received approval from the Vegan & Vegetarian Societies to add their respective logos to their back labels in Europe & America. A vegetarian has a diet which excludes meat, poultry, fish, whilst a vegan avoids all animal products including milk and eggs.
Carmel wines are kosher – no gelatin (animal based), casein (diary based) or non kosher products like isinglass are used for fining or clarification and only non chemical, vegetable based cleaning agents are used. Furthermore the winery does not use egg whites for fining.
Vanessa Brown of the Vegetarian Society said: “The Vegetarian Society is pleased to approve Carmel wines.” Tony Bishop-Weston of the Vegan Society said: “Having just tried to buy wines for my vegan wedding, I know what a nightmare it is. With Carmel now using our trademark, it will make life so much easier for caring and environmentally conscious people who would prefer animal free shopping.”
Surveys show that people think of kosher food as being ‘healthier & safer’. So in this instance the kosher certificate will combine with the vegan & vegetarian logos to ensure Carmel wines are both available and suitable to this important & fast growing market sector.
