Place: Tel Arad, in the North East Negev, 1,500 feet/ 500 meters above sea level. Tel Arad is a rare archaeological site in Israel with evidence of 3,000 years of history.
Founded: The winery was built in 2000. The first wines were launched in 2004.
Vineyards: Yatir Winery’s vineyards are 2,700 feet above sea level in Yatir Forest, Israel’s largest planted forest.
Region/ Appellation: Southern Judean Hills. There are old wine presses in the forest dating from 2,000 years ago. In ancient times this was known as Judea.
Wines: First, Premier Label: Yatir Forest. The 2003 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot aged in French oak barrels for 18 months, a third in new oak. Second Label: Yatir Cabernet Merlot Shiraz, aged in French oak for a year.
Production: 50,000 bottles a year.
Winemaker: Eran Goldwasser – He studied at Adelaide University in Australia; Worked for a Southcorp winery and for Carmel Winery before joining Yatir.
