Golan Heights Winery, Noble Semillon, Botrytis, Yarden, 2002: Made, as it was for its first release in 2001, by exposing late-harvested Semillon grapes to botrytis in the winery, this golden towards orange, medium- to full-bodied wine shows generous honeyed sweetness, that complemented nicely by aromas and flavors of orange peel and apricots. Soft, round and creamy on the palate, with good balancing acidity and, on the moderately-long finish hints of heather and white pepper. Drinking well now but the wine will show greater complexity as it attains greater bottle age. Best from 2006-2009, perhaps longer. Score 89. K
Golan Heights Winery, Moscato, Golan, 2004: As it has been every year since it was first released in 1999, this young, fresh white lightly alcoholic (6%) white wine, the first of the 2004 harvest to be released in Israel, cannot help but bring a comfortable smile to the face. Lightly frizzante, in the style of Moscato d'Asti, this year's version is generously sweet but has good natural acidity to set that off. With pineapple, melon, citrus flavors that play nicely on the palate and just enough bubbles to keep you fascinated, the wine will be as good as an aperitif, with gefilte fish or chraime or as a dessert wine. Meant for fun drinking in its youth and at its best as well chilled as you would Champagne. Score 87. K
Golan Heights Winery, Muscat, Yarden, 2002: Lightly reinforced with brandy, this remains as it has in past years, a floral wine, rich with citrus peel, pineapple and white peach aromas and flavors. Smooth and round, with generous sweetness and good balancing acidity to keep it fresh and lively. Drink now or in the next year or so. Score 87. K
Golan Heights Winery, Heightswine, Yarden, 2002: Made in the style of ice wine, the Gewurztraminer grapes frozen at the winery, light golden in color, medium-bodied, and with excellent balance. Plenty of natural acidity to back up the sweetness and keep it lively while allowing the peach, apricot, and quince fruits to make themselves nicely felt. Honeyed and floral, generous and round. An excellent dessert wine. Drink now-2008. Score 90. K
