It has a voluptuous nose of blueberry jam, plums, sweet spices and chocolate combined with nuances of citrus, herbs and flowers. The Yarden ‘Ortal vineyard’ Merlot 2001 is ready for drinking at present, but will continue to evolve in the next decade, if kept properly. It is recommended to partner this wine with rich and flavorsome meats such as venison, quail or roasted pigeon. Ortal vineyard is situated in northern Yarden ‘Ortal vineyard’ Merlot 2001 is made from four parcels inside the Ortal vineyard. The top parcel was planted in 1989, two intermediate parcels were planted in 1990 and the fourth in 1993. The rows of vines are planted on a slope facing south-west, which causes irregular sun exposure, but even with these differences, it is possible to achieve unified ripening by shaping the vine and bunches.
