Israeli wines won twenty five medals in the 2006 International Wine & Spirits Competition. The winner of the only Gold Medal awarded to Israel, was the Carmel’s Late Harvest Gewurztraminer 2004 from Sha’al vineyard in the northern Golan Heights. This wine was recently the winner of three major prizes in TerraVino, Israel’s first truly international wine tasting competition, and furthermore it received 95 points from Howard Goldberg of the New York Times & Decanter.   The main Silver Medal winners were: Dalton Cabernet Sauvignon  2003 Carmel Appellation Merlot 2003 Galil Mountain Yiron 2003 Recanati Petite Sirah Zinfandel Reserve 2004 Tabor Adama Cabernet Sauvignon Bazelet Tabor Adama Sauvignon Blanc Gir 2005 Yarden Blanc de Blancs 1999 Yarden Chardonnay Organic Vineyard 2003 Yarden Heightswine 2003   Bronze medals were won by: Binyamina (3), Carmel (3), Galil Mountain (2), Golan Heights (3), Recanati (2), Tishbi (1),and Tulip (1), wineries.   In total, the most successful wineries were the Golan Heights Winery with six medals and Carmel Winery with five, including the only gold. The IWSC, held annually in London, is one of the most well respected of the main international competitions.   July 2006
