Carmel joins such world famous wineries such as Chateau Haut Brion, D' Yquem, Latour and Guigal, as one of the wineries chosen to supply wine barrels to Bruichladdich Distillery. These casks are used for a series of 'wine finish' whiskies, which have made Bruichladdich known as the 'wine drinkers malt'.
Carmel's barrels were previously used to age the Single Vineyard and Appellation wines which won the Trophy at Les Citadelles du Vin at Vinexpo in Bordeaux. The wines were from Upper Galilee vineyards and they were aged at Carmel's Zichron Ya'acov Cellars.
Bruichladdich then purchased them with the intention of producing two special whiskies with an Israeli twist. The Bruichladdich 1989 'Carmel Finish' was aged for 18 years in Bourbon casks and the finished in Carmel's barrels. The Bruichladdich 1994 'Carmel Finish' was aged for 12 years and finished in the same way.
These two whiskies are on their way to Israel. The importer is Oded Shoham of Israco. Bruichladdich is from Islay in western Scotland. It is known as one of the most exciting current distilleries and has won a number of prizes in recent years such as Distillery of the Year, Innovator of The Year and Exporter of the Year in recent years.
